I have a Carcano rifle that was rebored from a 6.5 to NATO .308 and per my local gunsmith he has informed it is not safe to shoot (to badly worn) however he said that everyting else was in good working condition. Now my problem is I am having a hard time finding a replacement barrel now I know this is a dumb question: is there another barrel brand (MFR) that will I can replace my Carcano barrel with? I E, mauser?

Note: Currently I'm out of town therefore I cannot provide more info about my Carcano other than it is not a calvary Carcano.

Buy another Carcano just for the barrel. It would be cheaper than a new barrel, and you wouldn't even have to change it out, just shoot the new Carcano and hang the other one on the wall..
7.62 Nato, .308 Win, much higher chamber pressures than a Carcano should shoot, imho.

The Carcano is a very strong action. The Germans rebarreled them to 8x57 with out a problem. They have no problem handling 7.62 NATO however I would not run .308 Win. thru one. Presures are quite a bit higher with the .308.
I agree with FDG135. It would be cheaper to buy another than rebarrel, unless you want a different caliber.
I have one in 7.62x39.(home built)

If it was re-barreled to 7.62 NATO then the bolt face had to be altered as well to accept the cartridge. Might be feeding and case head support issues. Surplus LR Mauser barrels can be threaded for the Carcano. Why not do a 7x57 or 8x57?
