I have seen references to them using M1 Garands in WWII and found one photo. Can anyone shed some light on this?

They are paratroopers who were probably in France during D-day....My guess is the weapons were picked up, as the soldier standing to the left has a Schmeisser (MP40) slung over his shoulder...Bodes

I know that Canadian units in the Aleutians were equipped with US weapons & gear. This looks like some Paras with “found” weapons.

The Canadians in the Aleutians were armed with No 4 Lee-Enfields and some M1 Carbines.
