I have shot thousands of rounds of Turk & Yugo surplus in my Czech 98/22 with good results. Now I plan to go deer hunting with this rifle and bought a box of Sellier & Bellot 8MM soft point. When I got home I noticed on the box the following: "8X57 JS Only for barrels with s - calaber bore, 7,89 mm, grove 8,20 mm". Is this o. k. for this rifle?? The box also says "SPCE 12,7 g 196 grs No. 2945.
Is this good ammo??
Thanks for your help

I believe you can... the turk and yugo would have been the .323 diameter bullets and the S&B 8x57JS is going to be .323 diameter as well. They probably have some collectors over in europe who buy the 8x57J stuff, .318 diameter bullets. The US spec stuff is .323 bullets with a weak powder charge that can be used in both. I've found S&B makes good stuff: never tried its 8mm though. Does ANYONE make 8mm FMJ's anymore?

That Soft point is just fine for your rifle. Your 98 Mauser has an "s" caliber bore.

And New 8mm Mauser FMJ is loaded in Yugoslavia by Igman and Privi Partizan. You can buy them under the Century Hot Shot label and their own label from time to time.

Thanks guys for your advise on this. I am taking my oldest grandson on his first deer hunt this next weekend at Ft. Hood, Texas. (Youth hunting weekend). His dad is on active duty in South Carolina now, so can't take his son himself. My son has been on two deployments to the "land of the camel" and will probably go again.
My two children have a total of 25 years in the military, and I want to vomit when I hear what the traitorous leaders in the Democratic Party say about our troops.

Pray for our troops.

Thank you and your family, Obrazets, for your service.
If you're using the S&B ammo for the first time, you should buy a second box and test it first for shot placement, before taking your 98/22 hunting.
It should prove to be great hunting ammo, but may hit a different point of aim than the milsurp you are used to.
Good Luck!!!
