Wideners claims that their stuff is heavy ball, while Sportsmansguide claims is it is light ball.
Spam cans from both have the same markings. Who is not speaking a truth? Shouldn't
heavy ball be yellow-tipped?

Thanks

Light or Heavy Ball

Well.. it could be either. There are probably BOTH right. Bulgaria manufactured both light AND Heavy ball. I have a can of each. Older Combloc ammo should indeed be color coded... Yellow tip for heavy ball Bulgarian of that vintage

Yugoslavia was and is still manufacturing 182Gr heavy ball...... and sniper ammo too

For sure you can bet the photo of the item may NOT BE what they are actualy shipping. You always have to wonder with some of these folks.

But...like reported here: If it is a 440rd "spam can" modern combloc type.... and it is Bulgarian, then it IS Light ball (LPS).

And even if you order it from SOG and pay more....... It will still be Corrosive!

Newer 440rd cans

There is ALSO some late (1970-80's) Bulgarian LPS out there in the 440 rd cans. It may even be Steel cased. Heavy ball was dropped in the 1970's in favor of the "LPS" light ball for most combloc countries. The color coding went out to simplify logistics....

That is exactly the ammo in question. All steel case, most Copper Wash, some in the early 1980s is lacquer coated steel case. All good shooting ammo!

Thank you all for replies. I will go with SG as I want light ball. It appears there is a reasonable chance I will get it from them, i.e. they will not swap it with heavy ball. All 440rnd spam can bulgy was light ball up to date so i was taken aback with Wideners offering. I tried hungy silver yellowtips from
my M39 and they kick like horse and overshoot like 1ft on 100 yards compared to light ball.
Kinda takes a fun out from shooting an M39 for me. I always felt the hungy silver-yellowtips are hot loaded, besides having a heavier ball. Extraction was also harder with those, something I never experienced with any other cartridge in the same rifle, and I tried all of them except bulgy yellowtips.

The cases of Bulg LB i got from SG has lacquered cases and the cases i got from century are the CW cases. One of the cans i got from SG had been opened it had been cut on one end and one rd was missing from one box. The cans from SG were dated 1981 and rhey have the lacquered cases and the cases from Century are dated 1987 and they are the CW cases. Anyone know the dates that are lacquered and the dates are for the CW cases? Know big deal i just don't like the stuff with the lacquered cases. Looking at different cans of this Bulg LB there are a LOT! of different markings from case to case maybe there is HB in some cases.

Look at some of the different cans. Look at the cans you have there are a lot of different cans!
