I was at a gunshow last month and saw a Browning 92 with a very short barrel, maybe 16". It's the second one I have seen at two widely separated gunshows, so I doubt that it was the same one. Does anyone know if Browning made a trapper model 92?

Yes they did at Miroku in Japan. I had a Model 1892, Marked Winchester, made by Browning which I bought in 2002 and chambered for .45 Colt. It had the standard action configuration, curved-fitted metal buttplate and lever but was a 16 inch barrel. I was told that they only made approximately 1500 of this model. I sold mine a few years ago.
