I just bought some pistol lanyards with metal spring clips attached from the UK on ebay. Other than that they look like the WW1/WW2 ones but are green instead of khaki/olive drab. Most pistol lanyards with the two "turk heads" don't have a spring clip and are looped through the ring to secure it. When did the British start adding metal spring clips to their pistol lanyards? Also when did they switch from the old style corded lanyard to the one made with flat webbing material? I look forward to finding out more information. Thanks in advance.

IIRC, the spring clips were for whistles and such - at least in ww1 and shorter than the pistol laynards. the pistol lanyards were longer in WW1 than issued in WW2
