G'day all ... just mucking around with the camera and lights and thought I'd share some pics of my 1912 Navy trainer.

It is based on a 1901 LSA 1* Long Lee and it was re-barrelled in 1940 ... for every 20 or so No2 MkIV's you trip over, you'll only see one of these!

Anyway, I think it's a cool rifle:

My secret for the quality of the pics and posting them is simple, I have a 25 yr old son, if someday he gets married and leaves the house I'll never post a pic again.LOL

I passed on this one as it didn't "speak to me" - if you know what I mean.
Am really glad Heatseeker picked it up though - he really likes it - a nice piece.
Me - well,.... in hind sight I probably should have picked it up at the price Heat paid for it, but would still pass on it at the price it's actually worth (and I have a couple of SMLE trainers).
Funny how some things take your interest and others don't - almost no rhyme or reason to it. Thats collecting I suppose.

Its like a peep sight, you lift the front sight and set it to the desired range, the you lift the rear sight, which is of the peep sight type, you aim and shoot-Pls consider that this is a volley sight, not a precision one; in those times a group of soldiers fired from fixed positions
to the enemy who was also in trenches and a "rain" of bullets fell all around them-
If you look at my previous post the first and third picture will show to you both the front and rear and a detail of the rear sight which is in the folded position=

Okay, Raul, I see the rear sight now. Was trying to figure out how the dial worked with the front sight on the barrel.

Heatseeker64 has a picture that actually shows the aperture in the rear sight. Pretty clear after seeing that along with yours.

Thanks,
Ted

Don't have all my pic files with me, but managed to crop this out of a group pic. Top is a .22 Patt14 No1 (Westley Richards). Below is a Short .22 II N. Really like the older, multi-converted rifles. Nothing comes close to them for markings history. The rear sight on the Navy trainer has four different serial numbers on it, three lined out and the current (1912) number.

Funny how they crop up. Son's and mine turned up the same time, same shop. I got them both and was nice enough to sell one to Brad :D

It's truly odd where you find the rarer rifles. I found one of my .22 Pattern 1914 Short Rifle Mk I's in a fishing shop! Both .22 Short Rifle Mki's in one gun shop, another .22 Pattern 1914 Short Rifle No1 in a FAR flung gun shop, and .22 No2 Mk IV's in various places.

My local gunshop has 4 .22 trainers on the racks - an Ishapore and 3 Lithgows. He even had 3 No8's at one time!

Well Vulch your here too.-)) As for your statement above I find this also.... Brad's cropped Hgd was traded for by both & A Sq10 also. I must point out the one pic with the three he posted was before procuring and the lower one with his new Hgd from here:)))

Soill after the bolt cocking piece problem Brad and the front sight protector for these .22's so if Vulch is overhead on his way to R****a maybe he can flush them down the pan to get round exporting them:)))

No A SQ ,10 only hinting tha maybe there's another way to get a nom problematic part out of OZ:)) Puzzled me your remark about the other .22 having a lighter Hgd but I now see what you were on about, looks to be a late sMLE Hgd utelised, maybe he has parts I'm after for the same as your replacement:)))

Don't fling it then it might come in handy? At the risk of getting a "heatseeker" missile for going off topic:))) Still have the scabbard and it won't go anywhere until eventually it is bought for a realistic price. See pic. Still laugh uncontrolably... back onto the thread posters (when Vulch wanted it years ago for some rare Kangaroo droppings:)))
