this is on a 1896 sestroryetsk SCW m91 rifle . has anyone seen one of these before? ive looked at alot of early m91's and havent seen another, maybe it was installed by the spanish when they had it? when the bolt is forward, it engages between the cocking lever and bolt body and doesnt let it fire

really interesting .never saw anything like it. really a very good mod of the crappy, cumbersome mosin safety. looks to have required a good bit of machining skill. my guess is that it was done over here, but, who can say.

Might've been a half baked attempt to add a safety to make it easier to import. Or it could've been an attempt to make it into a hunting rifle (similar safety attempts have been noted, but none exactly like that, or exactly like each other for that matter). Possibly even an experiment at the arsenal to add a safety for training purposes. Unfortunately we'll never know for sure.

the SCW guns came over in the 60's right? the guy i got it from said he dad got at least 20 years ago and it already had the mod.

actually it looks like it was fairly easy to install, it could be done with one pass of a milling machine with a 1/2" mill, then drill the hole for the pin, install the lever and its done
