The place is definitely "Poginki", the only village in Eastern Europe that has no Triple of Westmalle ... it's so small we couldn't find it .

Would the dogs bring the application bäck?

Poginki, 23/8/1916
Mein liebes Rosalchen!

Yes, it is unmistakably Poginki. One more little mystery solved.

Poginki August 23, 1916

My Dear Little Rosa!

Today I received your dear letter, No 224. It made me very happy and I thank you very much. I also received a can of herring in aspic from Else sent on August 17th.

I can hardly believe that my little Walter can already write, and I send you both hereby my deepest thanks. Now the application is finally sent, and we will hope that it is successful, but don't count on it. I have not heard anything from Bruno Kämmerer, who has been delegated by the Company to make such decisions. Many applications are now pending, so we will simply have to wait until it is my turn. Walter has returned again to Ohrdruf, and you will of course be rejoicing about that, although the circumstances surrounding it are sad enough. Your mother can also not yet walk with her [injured] foot, and I hope that she is soon well, becauseit causes you so much extra work.

So Ernst Kämmerer is still in Gotha; he has been lucky. But we can't complain so far, because if things go like this for me until the end of the war then we will give thanks to God.

I'm still doing well so far, as I hope you, dear Rosa, our little Walter, the parents, Else and Walter are as well. Now I will send the heartiest of greetings and kisses to all from,

Your Faithful Karl

The status of his leave application seems to have improved, at least by a small amount.

Regards.
