I cleaned the arsenal grime with an SOS PAD and then rinsed the stock with scalding hot water then air dry.
I started with 400 then 600 then back to 400 wet because I could see some dings I thought I could get out. Some came some stayed
00 steel wool til i was sick of it.
0000 steel wool and here is the ......Dr Stringfellows TRICK LEM OIL you can find it at the local guitar shop. We use it on fret boards to tighten and refresh the rose wood.
I sprayed the lem oil onl and started rubbing with the 0000 wool. then more then more.
After I was satisfied that it was well worked in, it won't feel oily, started rubbing the stock with my hands taking oil of my face, yeah yeah, rubbing it into the wood.
0000 steel wool til I got sick of doing it.
THe LEM oil soaks into the wood and tightens it up. It will not color the wood and after awhile you can stain it and it will hold.
The good thing about lem oil is you can't screw it up. It soaks in it and will stay wet til you wipe it off if the grain gets full.
I like the soft shine it has and the wood is protected from water and most dirt.
You can re apply it let it soak in and wipe off the excess. The rifle will get a bit shinier over time.
ONE THING ABOUT LEM OIL IS IT CAN BE CAUSTIC. I DO NOT KNOW IF IT WILL JACK UP PARKERIZED METAL BUT I DIDN'T CHANCE IT.
