I was just curious how things are coming in Belgium recently. I understand Belgium is having a bit of a governmental crisis right now, and has not had a government for 3 months or more. Can you enlighten me more?

Regards.

Ho Expert, this situation is not so "off topic" as one would think!
I am not so politicaly minded but you must understand that Belgium was reigned by a French speaking "elite" until WWI broke out. 80% of the frontsoldiers were Flemish and received their orders in French ... those orders were often not understood! Cases are known were Flemish soldiers were shot by their officers because of this language barrier!
During this war even the Germans were aware of the injustice and "founded" the Humboldt university at Ghent. After the war the diploms of this Flemish university were declared illegal.
At the front the "Frontbeweging" (Front movement) took form.
To make a very long story short, even my father (from Flemish origin, but we spoke French and Flemish at home) predicted that the "domination" of the Walloons (the French speaking Belgians) was just a matter of time. He was right! The French speaking part of my country is busted, it is no exception to find three generations that never worked one single day in their life! Until now it was politicaly undoable to stop the situation. Flanders was rich for centuries and still is, and let's say that they have enough of it to send billions of Euros to "the poor brothers".
Let me repeat that politics do not interest me much, but I fully understand that there must come an end to "an unhealthy situation".
We have no "working" government for more as 100 days now because the Flemish part of the country placed their foot in the opened door and want to kick out some arrogance and chauvinism. You can see it as a dormant battle situation between a strong bull and a skinny one. I don't know how it shall end because at this moment I have no idea if the large bull will charge (in my opinion, he has all the rights).
You may not be aware of this but the so applauded French revolution of 1789 was a disaster for the Flanders, we didn't need it, we were already free and prosperous for centuries!

You have an interesting situation in Belgium, to be sure. I guess Belgium is discovering what MOST of the rest of Europe has already discovered, namely, that if your socialist governments make it possible for people to live without working, then people will not work. I know that Germany has been confronting this situation in the last few years, as well.

As the old German joke goes: Die Franzoesich arbeiten zu leben, und die Deutsch leben zu arbeiten.

Yes Expert, I worked like the Germans so I can live now in a French way :p.
Speaking about socialists, they were the main actors in that attempt to enslave the law abiding gun owners overhere. A very bad "commedia dell' arte".
I very much hope that Belgium will stay united but that at least everybody becomes aware of their own value and does not overrate themselves (like some did in the past IMHO).

We in America are having to deal with that as well....with this upcoming election, anticipate that gun control will be one of the main issues, as several of the presidential candidates wish to ban firearms. We will also have to watch them as the same ones try to socialize our medical system.

As you probably know we have one of the most advanced medical care systems for our citizens in the world, even for those who never worked a day in their life. There are attempts to let it crumble down a bit to. I was at the barricades in May 68 too but can make a difference between what is important and what is just beside the point. Power often corrupts the mind. And now I promise not to bore the readers anymore with my non-politic outpouring, let's not forget we have a very severe new moderator:eek: (like he should be!).
