I used Denatured Alcohol on the metal along with a Dremel Tool with wire wheel to get into the crevices of the sights. I used Easy-Off Oven cleaner on the wood. You can also use denatured Alcohol on the wood to lighten the color ofthe wood.

I would advise AGAINST using Easy-Off(TM) since its lye-based and will do a number on the wood.

I found Mpro7 does a really good job of softening up the paint/stoving on SMLEs of all flavors. Just let it sit a while and follow it up with a ScotchBrtite(TM) pad.
