I just bought a Belgian Congo Mauser, cal 30-06 in a well used but original condition. It bears the F.P.1952 crest with lion and crown. Unfortunately there are some german importer stamps as well, obviously it came to Germany in 1972.

According to BALL, 4th ed. , page 49 these Mausers seem to be scarce. Are there some more out there, e.g. in US collections? Would be great to get your opinion.

Good buy.Yes they are very hard to find in US collections.I have one but it has battle damage with cracked handguard and stock.Guy I got it from said he got it from a pilot that was flying in BC at the time.German proofs are neat-I dont think they detract. It is a hard to find Contract mauser!

Here is a photo, circa 1940 I believe, of soldiers of the Force Publique with Mle. 1936 Mausers.
