I picked up this Belgian 1889/36 this weekend from the big estate gun sale that's been going on in the Nashville area over the last few months. The bolt and magazine are mismatches, but the bore is very nice. The stock is dirty and has some dings, but I think it will clean up very nicely. Perhaps the best part was the price - $125!

The bolt appears to be from a carbine, since it has the bent handle. There is also an indentation on the right hand see of the stock where is looks like some type of hardware was attached at one time. Does anyone know what it could have been?

Very nice, and if that rod is correct it would be a very nice bonus on such a cheap find. It would be worth a third of the price paid to a collector with a matching rifle with no rod. Congrats.

Hmm.. how does one find estate sales.

I see fleabayers selling "Estate finds", I see it everywhere.. but how does the average person find these estate sales, particularly the kind to find militaria & firearms.

Seems these fleabayers are scoring tons of goodies for bottom dollar & making a killing..
All I want to do is acquire a nice collection for myself.

The quantity of estate sales varies by your location. Here in God's waiting room there's one every weekend somewhere. I've never had any luck, but it's always fun to go and look.

The estate sale in Nashville is rather unusual. It's from the estate of a lifelong collector of guns and militaria -- over 700 firearms in all. The dealer that has been handling the estate has been holding a series of stand-alone sales, along with setting up at the various gun shows in the Nashville area over the last four months.

I've bought 10 rifles -- from these sales over the last four months including a Polish kbk wz98 and a Yugo Model 24 (in regards to Mausers). There have been several posts about the sales in the Tennessee-Georgia Shooters Board.

The collection is pretty picked over by now, but there are still several nice items to be had at reasonable prices. The sale last weekend was the last of the stand-alone sales. The dealer will be setting up TMCA show in Franklin, Kentucky on November 23-25.

I'm betting it's Franklin, Tennessee. Why would TMCA meet in KY?:D

Tim, cut him some slack. He is so giddy from all of the guns he has bought over the past few months that he doesn't know where he is half the time.
