Sorry if this has been covered, I tried searching but found nothing. I have read that the folding bayonets originally issued for the short rifles did not work well and fixed blade bayonets replaced them. At what point did this switch over occur? Just wondering which bayonet would be "more correct" at what point during the war. Thanks for any help.

I always thought that folding bayonet idea was silly . It was a lot of fooling around to get the bayonet ready and added extra weight to the muzzle. That said, the bayonets are almost more expensive than the gun because they seem to be rare. I think enough people with juice complained and the fixed bayonet was born. When I don't know.

It was around 1940 that the fixed type was adopted when they went to the 6,5x52 mm Fucile Modello 1938.
