A friend of mine recently got this bayonet at an estate sale. We were wondering what it's value may be, and something about it's origin. Also, where would something like this sell best?
Richard has the right of it. These are not uncommon, and in that condition (active rust, blade tip broken off) I'm afraid its basically worth nothing.
Sorry to be a bummer...
I think that if this sad example was listed on the Trader it would instantly sell for $75.
The condition is poor but there are many new Carcano collectors who have never encountered one of the folding bayonets and may be tempted to purchase a place filler.
I think it will clean up. I had one for the longest time without a scabbard and a dealer friend knew I needed one. One lucky day he presented me with a scabbard. Richard is right, It will sell , just clean it easy with bronze wool and oil.
As mentioned, unfortunately it is not worth much in that shape. I assume you have tested that the folding mechanism works - if not, push the button and pull blade forwards to unlock it.
No problem clean similar blade and scabbard good oil, and gently clean wout brash traces, this should be the early foldable blade, so even end of tip is broken, its certainly more worth as 50, even the scabbard is more valuable.Luckily it was only few years in bad condition, i assume last 5-10 , when from war it looked other, the rust is not old there.
