Bavarian Police Carcanos from the post-WW-II era are not infrequently found. These are Moschetti 91/24 and 91/28, Fucili 91/38 and Fucili 91/41. Their history, based on archival sources, has recently been described in the Deutsches Waffen-Journal. Here is a posting with pictures of one; the barrel "extension" was, as DocAv correctly surmised, only added after US import, to comply with NFA 34 on barrel length, as it was in the 1950s.

I picked up this little carbine last winter..and thought it was interesting enough to post some pics. It has the short extension to lengthen the barrel..but it has no import stamp. All in all..a decent rifle with some history..bore is really good.
