I just thought this might be of interest. The rifle is in need of repair so I have it apart at the moment but, the stock is the story.
The line down the center of the chip out is a perfect match for the point of a 123gr 7.62 bullet. The decorations match the mouth of a 7.62x39 casing. I wonder if the religious affiliations did the previous owner any good?

Looks Serbian or Albanian.

I think the angels were with him - looks like it didn't hit the guy with the rifle.

I have several with iron frag in the stock that look less lucky, plus a lovely Victorian English shotgun with the whole side poked with #8 shot, no doubt where a tweed-clad shooter swung too far and shot the owner, then an afternoon picking shot out of an English lord while he bit the bullet after a few glasses of good whiskey. Probably cost the shooter an invite back to the next weekend of pheasant shooting at the estate!
