After about 120 rds of .375 ball (17gr Vol, FFFg triple-7), the wedge is so worn/misshapened that it can't narrow the gap anymore. Is there a reason that it's trapezoid-shaped? (I can only think of two: ease of insert/dismount, and soaking up ball's impact to the barrel by deformation).

I'm thinking about milling out a rectangle wedge so the impact force will spread out more (less wedge deformation and longer lasting); however, would that impact force goes somewhere else and do damage bec. of its open-top construction (iron frame in my case)?

Take that firearm to a gunsmith and have it checked out. I've put more then 400 rounds through my .36 Cal, 1851 (Pietta) and it's still nice and tight.

P.S. I did have to replace the trigger/cylinder lock spring.
