Huh? I'd never noticed that buried in George's post about the types of Makarovs was the following:

On the Arsenal web page, it shows a P-M01:

How long has this designation been around? Am I the only one here that has never noticed this?

What exactly is a P-M01? Does it have to have a square trigger guard? Will the pistol always be marked "P-M01" ??

Slim, As I recall, the P-M01 was the Arsenal Factory model code for the first run of "Made for commerical Export" Makarov's. The first Makarov's exported from Bulgaria for commerical Export were re-stamped Military Models, for the third run, the model was changed to "Makarov Sporting Pistol" Somewhere between the P-M01 and the "Makarov Sporting Pistol" were the Miltex Special Editions. I have seen/Held/owned P-M01's in the USA with both Round and Square trigger guards, so that might have been a feature that was worked into the production line while it was already moving forward.

Are P-M01's still imported into the US?
From what I understand, there are no Makarovs imported into the US at this time. I contacted Arsenal in Las Vegas and they told me that they will only be importing AKs, no plans for Makarovs. I contacted them looking for the extended finger rest magazine floor plate.

Hi all, I just bought a Bulgarian MAK last week and I went to check out the marking after I read this post. On the slide it says Makarov cal.9x18 then below that it has AD 38 11xx, then below that it says Made in Bulgaria. on the frame it has a circle 10 AD 38 11xx.

From what I can find, it is a 1998 model. It also has a round trigger.

I'm new to this make of gun so forgive me if I have made any mistakes.

PS:
I really like shooting it.:D

From the sounds of it, you actually have a Bulgarian Military Makarov. The tell tale sign is the 10 inside the circles. That is the factory stamp. Check out the listings on makarov.com, George has compiled all the info that you would ever need. When I got my first Mak, that is where I got a lot of info along with this board. Welcome aboard and don't hesitate to ask any questions. You have a great pistol, my carry piece is a Bulgarian Mak.
