Can someone confirm for me that stocks used on the Model 1909 cavalry carbines (as opposed to the Engineer's carbines, which had their own stocks) were typically cut-down long rifle versions and, thus, not matched to the rifles' other SNs? I seem to recall reading this, but I could be confusing the 1909 with the 1891.

I don't believe this is correct on either account. Neither model carbine used cut down stocks, and all were originally numbered to the receiver. That's not to say that some may have been altered during repair, etc in Argentina.

Hmm. I know I read somewhere - maybe on the always correct Interwebz - that the stocks on one of the carbines were typically cut-down long rifle stocks. Maybe Webster's book has something on this. I will look tonight.

It is possible that the stocks were cut down, but the original numbers of the M-1909 are those that send them here. Webster's book does not always tell the truth, I've seen this already.
