Hello everyone.

I'm fairly new to Gunboards, and I've been collecting for about 3 years. I've already ended up with about 35 surplus firearms, and I have gained an interest in South American Mausers. Particularly the Argentine rifles (I have all the 1909 variants, 1891 carbine and rifle, and now a Buenos Aires Police carbine). I recently got an excellent condition 1891 rifle with crest intact. I've noticed a lot of variance in which serial runs survived the crest being ground off. Beyond that I've noticed some differences in the crests type in 1891 rifles with intact crests. I want to create a survey for 1891 rifles that have the crest intact. Currently the list is pretty small. I've scoured current guns for sale, and went through the Gunboards search and found some rifles that were pictures of had serials listed in old topics. I want to have these cataloged by serial, condition, and eventually crest type (some guns have straight lines in the background or a 1909 style crest) on these rifles. It seems that most of the surviving guns are K and T prefix rifles. A previous thread here showed most people that owned one had a K prefix, however the full serials were not posted. Most of the guns currently for sale seemed to have a T prefix. Rambling aside I would like to make this into an actual database for rifles with surviving crests.

I would also like to have a survey of the remaining Argentine service academy rifles. These guns are my eventual holy grail for my Argentine collection. These guns are already rare and finding them online is hard to do. I have yet to see a picture of a naval academy gun in a private collection. So I also scoured the internet and put together a very basic list of service academy guns that are out there.

Any help expanding this is greatly appreciated.

Here are the spreadsheets so far:

It is worth noting that EM32 was a recent sale from Empire Arms. BU 141 was a Rock Island Auction gun from 2010, and BU 67 is from the Argentine Mauser book by Colin Webster. The rest are from forum posts here and elsewhere.

For a bonus here is my 1891

Mine is a DWM 1891. All matching VG cond intact crest S/N W6246
That would be a DWM M1891. It could not have been made in 1891.

That kind of info you don't find anywhere but on Gunboards from Gunboards members.

My crested 1891 rifles:

K3433 Matching. Very Good condition
T7033 Matching fair condition
T7132 Matching fair condition

I agree with your observations on the K and T block rifles. I have seen many T block rifles with intact crests, but most are well used/abused.

T 3634 new crest poor condition
T 6448 new crest poor condition
T 0523 old crest poor condition
T 8713 old crest poor condition
T 0624 new crest poor condition (RTI Very Good)
T 2421 new crest poor condition (Century Good)

If I can access my spreadsheet from our previous discussions, I have them all cataloged as to new/old crest. That would give you 20-30 T Series, a few of which you already have and include the ones above.
