I have never been able to bring myself to sporterise a military rifle but I will buy them from time to time.A Friend of mine had picked this up and I bought it from him.I figure this was a 24.00 Woolworth or Sears rifle from the 1950's.The barrel was shortened to 23",stock cut off in front of lower band spring.Cleaning rod hole filled in,bolt crudely bent down. This is an all matching DWM made 1891.The cleaning rod more than likely matched and has long been lost or thrown away.Bore is like new.To me,it is the standard 50's-68 era economy sporter, made from what was then a cheap surplus rifle. For $100 I couldnt pass it up.Rifles at this price seem to be a thing of the past with the internet auctions and more people getting interested in Mausers and surplus rifles.I have not shot this yet but the barrel crown seems ok for a basement gunsmith job.
