David,

Interesting. I can't read the wording in the white. But the stenciled letters could stand for something along the lines of Armed Forces Korea Eighth U? R? I am not sure about the last two letters. I am drawing a blank on the current abbreviation for the Eighth Army in Korea. Maybe some Korean Service vets may know.

EUSA.

The weapon might have migrated out of PI or Indonesia. I think dealers swept those areas
in the 50s and pulled a lot of stuff on to our surplus market.
I think you holed in one. Google suggests that that 'afkeur' is Dutch and it means 'reject'. Indonesia sounds about right in that context.

Maybe that is why everyone used to shun T53's in the early '90's, they were reputed (actually known) to be bad(unsafe for one reason or another) firearms, hence the bad reputation of Chinese firearms.

In reality, they were simply worn out.
