I have a brand new .50 barrel that shows up on the internet as ENC RFL BRL 209X50 MAG BLUE and though they have a sales price of around $279 they seem to be all out of stock as if it is discontinued. Was the T/C black powder a flop? I'm hoping to find out if the barrel has any value left or if it is scrap iron?

Any opinions will be appreciated and if I can come up with a fair value I will likely post it on the WTS forum.

Regards.

They are good barrels. S&W has bought T/C, and barrels and parts are in short supply. There are rumors that the single shots may be dropped from the line. The coustom shop is closed and may not re-open.

Well that explains a lot. I assume this barrel is interchangeable with the T/C black powder rifles. Am I correct? If a person has a T/C Encore black powder rifle in a .44 Cal can they use this .50 barrel? I'm familiar with the T/C pistols with all the interchangeable barrels, are the black powders the same?

The barrel will fit any Encore frame converting it to a muzzle loader. You will need a fore end for the muzzle loader to hold the ramrod, the centerfire fore end doesn't fit

That seems impressive to me Mike. I certainly didn't know that. Would it be considered 'inline'? Here in Idaho they have made inline black powder legal to hunt with as long as loose powder is used without saboted rounds.

It sounds like a desirable item to me. If they are not making them anymore, do you think I should be asking retail for it?

Should be consideed an 'in-line", but woth regulatory bodies, you never really know - so ASK. Not a clue on proper price - but try and get retail and see what attention you attract.

Yes it is an in-line. There has been one here in a local weekly want adds for months and it is stainless steel. They are asking around $250 but it's used. I guess it's a matter of finding the right person.
"{ as long as loose powder is used without sabot rounds }" Why do we have these STUPID LAWS ???:p
I swear, There are more stupid laws surrounding muzzleloader hunting than almost anything else. The only thing I can think of that's worse is Migratory Game. But that is to be expected, when the federal government gets involved.

Thanks guys. A big help. I might want to keep my eyes out for an Encore frame and forearm for the barrel. If there are no real negative reviews it might be a good gun to keep on hand or maybe sell quicker as complete.

@Motor, Idaho just recently changed their laws to allow inline rifles. It was quite a debate for years. Idaho was totally "traditional" and it seemed to attract people who from all over who thought anything other than traditional was wrong. :)

I've heard that the latest and greatest black powder rifles are equipped to shoot hundreds of yards with considerable accuracy and effectiveness. Having people dropping giant deer and elk at 500+ yards kind reminds me of shooting a 300 win mag. I guess I get some mixed emotions about having a special season for those kind of performance rifles.
