Hey All - I saw a TJK 37 in the 50,000 range and its a bit of a mystry. The action has later features (no Type 99 markings and no guards on the front sights) but earlier stock features (monopod, metal buttplate and 2 screw rear sling swivel). From what I've read here and in "Military Rifles of Japan" this combo could be possible with the exception of the monopod/rear barrel band. So if this is the case I'm guessing that either the rear band/monopod was added on or someone placed a later action in an earlier stock. However given the over lapping of many features I'm curious if anyone has encountered a legit TJK in the 50,000 range with a monopod. Thanks!

Not likely to be original; as you say, maybe added later, or stock changed. See p122 in the T 99 book for discussion of the lower band changes.

My TJK series 37 had mum,a/c rear sight,ft sight ears, cleaning rod and monopod band in place.Only bolt was missing.I got a bolt and just recently got a supposedly New Guinea capture monopod. No bolt cover but the reciever is grooved for one.The front band area did have marks that would seem a monopod was installed originally. It's S/N12979.Does that fog the air any?

Hey Gremlin - I don't think that fogs the air any. Early numbered 37s apparenlty had the early features you described. Apparently the monopod was lost somewhere in the 20,000 range.
