Hey guys,

A local self proclaimed old timer Mosin Nagant collector put up a 1907 carbine on Craig's List today. Photos were pretty good and he wrote all matchin', great condition. Seven hundred bucks cash. He also wrote that it's dated 1907, and ya' can see it in the photos. Said he is in his retirement years and volunteers around New Orleans. Wrote that he is sellin' his old collection he mostly collected in the fifties and sixties.

Sellin' to help the grand kids with college. I called the number as soon as I saw the ad. Lady at the New Orleans Zoo (Was surprised at that.) , said she knew Larry sold things and gave the money to the grandkids for college. So no problems, but she said he is old school and doesn't have a cell phone. Also said he was busy feedin' the large animals and couldn't come to the phone. I didn't mention that I wanted to speak to him about a firearm, and she didn't ask, good.

Larry called me earlier in the evening and invited me over to his nice Uptown home. Nice old guy that looks a bit like Grizzly Adams. The carbine was better than expected, and gave him seven fifty, lil' extra for the kids. He wanted to show me some more of his small but quality collection. Two more matchin' carbines with later dates said he'd had for decades. They are in the same condition as the one I bought. Told him I wanted them both, but would take me a coupla' months to get that scratch together. We agreed on that. Eight hundred each for the other two, bit high I think, but will get the bucks together.

Man swore he would hold the two other carbines for two months, and not list them, shake and a deal. We sat on the porch with beers, and he told me how he got things like this decades ago for real cheap. He worked for Texaco in Louisiana for thirty five years as an engineer. Said he always had twenty thirty bucks for these old rifles advertised in magazines.

One I bought is apart and soaked with oil, he was right, all matchin' and very little surface rust. Looks to have an original leather sling and great bore. What a great day, great weather, good company and a carbine that is tough to find. Will post photos soon.

Mat!, my camera battery is dead, hope to put photos up now Wednesday. Think I am gonna' donate a hundred bucks to the zoo. Especially for the elephants. Like those big brutes.

Prettiest day in weeks with a nice end. Fished a bit today and caught one, no complaints. How are you?

Thanks guys it was a very good April first, April first! L. LaFont, elephant, zoo...no cell phone...my camera was dead...

Mat! not the kind of fishin' you thought of, looks like I caught two or three on April first, more than expected.

Ghost, the lady on the phone, Lisa JeRaffe. Cajun type.

Sorry no photos, seems like my camera goes out every April first. Congrats to Sparky, caught me first.

It was April first when I started the story.

Nice Matt, the zoo can use a facelift. Also checked on Lisa, address I found was in Nigeria. But that's not always a bad thing, just internet confusion.

Think your contribution will help your tax situation next year, and thanks for your contribution. It's a beautiful zoo when it's fixed up.

Figure they have a small arsenal of firearms, wonder what that would be? Can't have a big rogue L. LaFont escapin' the place and ragin' uptown. The rich people wouldn't like that.

Thanks for bein' a sport.

Relic, never deal with jackals, creatures of opportunity, and can't trust them...smart though. And Mr. L. LaFont, what a helluva' guy if he existed.

Don't collect anymore, but did have a Mr. L. LaFont over the last fifteen years. Dealer couple that have sold me very fine pieces for good prices, and me to them.

Might tempt them with a piece the wife would have to have. Bucks for both of us.
