Hello

I have a repro mount for a G43, and I would like to put a scope. The original ZF 4 scopes are so expensive and difficult to find I am searching an alternate way.

1° Are there copies of ZF 4 scopes (like copies of ZF 39 exist ?)

2° I had an idea: to have rings machined and to put a Russian PU inside . The outer appearance could be OK.

If some of you faced the same problem and found the solution I am ready to take it.

suppose anything could work if you put your mind to it,but its not going to look right, and you run a chance of ruining a $135 repro mount while doing it

my advice to you is to bite the bullet and save up $600 and just get a zf4 and some repro bands, you will be glad you did once you get it all together

or sell a couple rifles that you "can live without" to pay for it,or atleast enough to fund the bulk of the scope, trust me you wont be satisfied with what ever you end up with unless you get the real deal

search around for a Czech reworked scope, and save a little there too

A PU scope will fit and e-bay is full of replicas for 100.00 to 150.00

There is some kind of mount that would eliminate all these problems, over at an auction site right now, unethical to say which, just one of the big ones, called a one of a kind scope mounts something or another. That one takes any modern scope, but looks like a custom made one though so I guess there won't be anymore.

Actually, the big hurdle on the repro's seems to be the tab that protrudes upwards to fit in the groove of the zf4, if the bands were in fact 1" then one can shim the back portion, I'll know soon cause I have repro with "rings" coming soon, haven't had one before to know, and I too wish to put a modern 4x shorty scope, or a longer one if the mount is too wide for the 4x chicom scope, I don't even know if one could trust an old vintage scope to be reliable, seems like an old original zf4 would wander point of impact, or just stop working one day, but hey, what do I know, not enough experience with alot of vintage stuff, and I am more of a sport shooter than a collector, though I seem to engage in collecting to engage in sport shooting.

For what I would like myself like you would be a modern sniper scope mixed with a quick detach mount.

I picked up 5 or 6 SVT 40 scopes 15+ years ago at the Frankfurt (Germany) flea market for $25 ea and kept one to use on my G 43 hunting rifle - took the original ZF 4 off the repro mount and put it away. The scopes were brand new.
I had to shim one end of the scope because of the "rings" around it. Used leather to do this. Works just fine. A PU would require the same leather shims. A PU is the cheapest & best way to go. Doesn't quite look right, but has the same reticule as German. I would expect this was done by the Germans more than once.

Well, I got lucky to get a earlier high quality repro scope mount, from the book info it is a Taiwanese made, fits and functions well, nice and tight, well made, etc.
I can see though that the shorty commercial chicom sks/ak scopes won't go on, too short and the saddle is too wide on the mount, could try a 3x9x40 longer scope of a tasco nature. Scope tried was a 4x28 leapers, likely a 6x leapers or similar is too short as well. But I already knew this was likely the case, but with some fabrication of an adapter, I could in theory put a chicom shorty scope on one of these mounts, anyone could, I wouldn't worry about scope being too high, it wouldn't be that high if raised off a regular zf4 mount less than half an inch on an adaptor.

Vic is right about all those PU scopes, I am unsure which route I may go, and of course once I can't install a longer commercial scope cause the bell is too low I will likely go that route of a reproduction or user pu scope.

Actually, I forgot to also mention the reticle adjustment block that protrudes on all the commercial scopes, which also prevents regular scopes being used.
Nah, really this means a person would have to handmake some sort of adapter, making the scope higher, likely being unable to use original zf4 "rings".

(HOW TO INSTALL A MODERN SCOPE LIKE I DID)I did figure out how to install a regular modern scope onto a g43 repro mount. I used a 32mm bell "powerline" brand heavy duty air rifle/regular firearms scope 3x9x32(advertised on the package not just for air rifles)with thick rubber shims made out of automotive water hose to put under the scope, had to in order to fit a modern scope to raise it off the center of the scope and the bands are too big for 1" scope anyway so there has to be something. One could in theory make a couple of aluminum shims made out of thick aluminum rings halves if one has some extras to mess with, to put under there, also I feel one could install a 40mm bell scope likely.
I just straddled the rubber shim over the scope mount protruding ring, seemed to compress around it fine.
I decided to flip the adjusters backwards facing left cause I am too lazy to make a higher shim right now to clear the right side of the mount, if I had bout .001" more height I would have been okay, so windage adjustment will be height adjustment and high adjustment will be windage adjustment from the left and top instead of right and top like normal, I don't feel like destroying an aluminum ring half that has some thickness to it off an sks leapers scope mount. For all I know, the rubber shims are the perfect solution, will dampen stress on a cheap scope, and are automotive grade for water hose(the thicker the better is all I can say) so don't compress much at all.
And I am too lazy to photo this, but this is the advice I can give, on this thread for your question, what I've done.
