This mine is where a huge number of M91/30, M44, M38, and captured 98k rifles came from that were imported into US over past 20 years.

In the post WWI years in the US, huge qualities of "Low Number Springfields "disposed of" by placing them in reserve and a significant number reemployed early on in WWII. Likely the same "in reserve" precept after WWII during Soviet Era. Likely many of such arms "secured" as avoiding falling into hands of black marketers' and criminal enterprises.
What I don't understand is the point here.
'If', Russian propaganda, the admission of "antique and outmoded", seems to defeat of any "capture" value of interest in instance of the present Ru - Ua conflict. Not sure of the point here, nor does one seem to be advanced.

Just my ??? take + Slava Ukraine!
Best!

Yeah...where was my call???
Give me a golf cart, crowbar, Russian/English dictionary, a few shopping-cart trailers, and 2 or 3 days, and I'll happily remove a share.

I believe my two Russian contract 1911s came from there as well.
The Soviet Union/ Russia has a history of saving all the ordnance ever created by them or sent to them as aid.

A number of weapons and ammunition depots land factories located in the Ukraine.

Don't think for a minute that Prigozhin hasn't had all of the Thompson's and 1911's removed and shipped to one of his Wagner warehouses for later sale on the black market.

At $90,000 U.S. per gun there is no way that he would pass up the opportunity to make an additional buck or two.

I doubt a Thompson is worth $90 k in Russia or Europe., and likely not legal for the average citizen.
A large pile of Thompson parts were imported from Russia 15 or more years ago. All new condition.

I had a good conversation with Gary Cole about his buying trips to a salt mine in Ukraine. It might have been this very one.

Deactivated Thompsons from Ukraine sold for about $300 each in Europe. They were in pristine condition.

Agree that a Thompson is only worth 90k in the US due to our peculiar laws… and the books have been closed since 1986 for new ones. In Russia those Thompsons are probably only worth a few hundred apiece. Pro’s: full auto. Cons: heavy, semi-obsolescent round with limited foreign availability, old design.
