I just found an unknown can of 7.62x54r in my basement. I opened it as the markings were gone. In it are 20 wedge shaped boxes each holding 15 rds on clips. I couldnt read the headstamp. It looks like a 3 digit number at 12 oclock and a single digit at 6 oclock. Any idea what it is? Guy I bought it from said it is Chinese. Very excited as I now have some clips.

Sounds like Russian with a 1950s date code. Need more to be sure.

I dont think it is Chinese. There are a couple are pieces of paper in it with Cyrillic writing. The head stamp looks like 188 on top and either a 6 or E on the bottom. The boxes are wedge shaped and tied shot with string. Copper washed cases. I think it is Russian. 188 is a Russian headstamp.

The 188 is a Soviet factory, and the E is the code for 1954.
