Hello everyone im looking for info if there's any out there on possible parts/things that might fit this gun. It has intrigued me and i think it might look great with my two double hump pump guns. My two things im looking for is the furniture and the action/reciever extension tube. Now the model 50 and sx3 look similar to the model 40. Can anyone shine on this gem? Has anyone had experience with these or have pictures of the action tube?

More like a lump of coal than a gem.

Roy F. Dunlap, Gunsmithing, Shotguns and Shotgun Work:

The Model 40 Autoloading Shotgun
In the 1930s Winchester again tried to develop a good autoloader,
and again failed. The Model 40 was not only a poor gun, but was ex-
expensive to make, which undoubtedly influenced the maker to drop
rather than perfect the model. A very nice looking arm, the action
combined some features of the M11 with some Browning ideas. Prin-
ciple troubles were with the sear mechanism and I have seen one
broken breech bolt. Winchester will sell a few parts for the Model 40,
but for anything important, they request you to send the gun to them,
and after they get it, they send you a new Model 12 pump gun and
tell you to forget about the autoloader! Which is a good deal.

They also have a reputation for breaking stocks, according to Elmer Keith.
