I don't see this kind of crap flying in most of those states, I wouldn't be all that worried about it. At the same time, if you live in a state on the list, it sounds like it's time to start harassing your state rep!

First, this is old legislation and we are on to the 2009 session.

Second, this type of non-common sense legislation always pops up whether we are in a pro or anti gun period. Have faith; the system does work.

Th

This has been going around for a few months now. The prevailing opinion is that this so-called organization is nothing else but a smokescreen by a company called Ammunition Coding Systems out of Oregon (or was it Washington state?) in their attempt to make a boatload of money from selling the etching technology and licensing fees after they've goaded our gullible leaders into buying into the hype about how this crap makes the world safer. But do write your representative if there's such a bill on the table in your state and ask your rep if he/she is aware of the fact that this is not being sponsored by some sort of citizens organization but by a private corporation that is only interested in turning a profit and is willing to invent something that poses as a non profit or similar org just to make it look like there's public demand for the technology they're trying to sell....

Cheers

Thanks for the info bernd. I feel like a bit of a putz, but hey, better to take action and be a bit off the mark than do nothing.

Also if anyone cares its a pretty raw website, flat HTML generated by Frontpage, FTP and Apache out back, and a Go Daddy registration. If this is the best that company can throw at legislating themselves some business they deserve to get the short end of the free-market stick.

No need to feel like a putz. We'll all need to be extra vigilant for the next four years (let's hope it won't be more than that). One thing the board members in Seattle, WA might be able to do is find out (or another brother from the board) if there are bigger players behind this. There's a second company named Ammunition Coating Systems registered under the same phone number. That company I can find in Hoovers business directory but I don't have a subscription to it any more and therefore can't pull names off of Hoovers. Would be interesting to cross reference the names of the companies owners/officers with the 'usual suspects' in the gun control crowd and see what shows up.
OK, better stop now before Tuco gives us the 3rd degree for non Mosin-related ranting:rolleyes:

This sounds just like the dirty work of that "microstamping" crowd. Their Kommiefornia pipe dreams are a failure, if they can't get rid of old ammo or reloaders sooner or later.

Rifle and pistol barrels have their own lands and grooves, which leave an individual "finger print" on fired bullets. Any CSI lab can tell which guns fired what bullets and they've done this for decades. The average IDIOT will never understand this; so we have to deal with greedy fascist corporations trying to make $$$$ from their big lies. The dishonest mass media is also problematic...

There is no anti-crime benefit to microstamping/serializing ammo. It just makes ammunition more expensive for law abiding gun owners. Just another way for anti-gunners to price-out most law abiding gun owners and reduce gun ownership overall and for greedy businessmen to make a quick buck at the same time.

bch7773 your post is IRRESPONSIBLE get inforned would you? It doesn't take much effort to look up the associated bills in the states listed.

oh looky here it's not hype by some pro-gunners:

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/documents/billdocs/2007-08/Pdf/Bills/House Bills/3359.pdf

http://www.legis.state.pa.us/CFDOCS...d=0&billBody=H&billTyp=B&billNbr=2228&pn=3188

This has nothing to do with catching "criminals" most of the 18 states who introduced "encoded ammunition" also have gun registration laws on the books we all remember the same anti-gunners claim they needed to register guns so they could catch the bad guys which we all know hasn't worked so now they make the same dumbass claims with encoded ammo.... Criminals steal guns what will stop them from stealing ammo? Libs = MORONS, make that DANGERIOUS MORONS

Did anyone actually look at the dates on some of the bills? There were two direct state sites where I typed in the bill # and it showed nothing.

Not a product of the new government, its old, and this type of legislation is always in the system in one form or another. Lets stop scaring people.

The latest American Rifleman has many of these bills in "defeated" category. From what I've seen most, maybe all, of the rest are just sitting in a committee where they will expire at the end of the current session.
