Anyone have ideas on how to age new leather...? Heard about a lot of "tricks"....bury in the backyard; soak in various solutions; beat with a mallet...chain...bat...etc. Any legitimate tricks out there...?
Thanx....Charlie.

Here's what you do... lay the item out in the road in front of your house and have the garbage truck run over it 3 times in each direction and presto... aged leather!!

But seriously, I remember reading at one of the leatherworking sites that you can "age" new leather by spraying it with Easy Off oven cleaner. Apparently the key is not to leave it on too long, a few minutes at most. I want to make it very clear, I've never tried this and I would test out a small piece of scrap first before you go spraying a nice leather article with this stuff and possibly ruining it.

rough it up with stressing, hammer hitting wood over lays twisting turning sharp edges to flat.....
this to the degree you want in looks..different areas less to most.

boiled black tea bags strong 4 bags to a large coffee cup set for a few hours before you start, as a starter stains different strengths.....
rubbed afterwards with rough burlap in all directions shoe shining motions....
then a few spots of liquid wax furniture stain....
finish with neat footsoil...... then a good past wax.....
i did this with a new sniper cheek pad......had that look.....age 25 years....
