Even with the good news of falling lead and copper prices, effective wednesday 12-10-2008, Academy sports will be raising prices on Monarch .223 and CCI, Monarch, Remington, and Winchester handgun ammo. The increases will be $1-4; Monarch .223 stell cased will be 6.29, 9mm will be 10.49, etc. etc.

Underhanded and shady imo, but ultimately a natural business move. take advantage of the panicing masses. even with my discount walmart will be cheaper or the same....for now. I implore you not to pay these ridiculous prices, buy now before wednesday then no more.

This is not gouging. This is how a market is supposed to work. Demand has increased massively- as you can see from all the backlogs at our sellers. The only way to avoid running out of inventory is to ration sales or raise prices- rationing by prices. If they don't move enough at higher prices they'll be forced to lower them. But people are panicking and buying at any price, so i don't count on that happening.

problem with that is we aren't selling very much of any of these, heck I've got cases of some of blazer ammo they are raising I've had for months. They just had the blazer and monarch 9mm on sale a week or so ago.

I can't think that the "panic - stock up frenzy" can go on much longer.... If you have not spent your wad on ammo by now, you must be really dim or illiterate.....or you just don't have the money to spend.

I bet the ammo buying will be very much reduced during the first 1/4 of 2000 or surely the second 1/4. Not much extra money in most folks pockets by then.....and plenty of ammo stocked away.

Don't you guys have A LOT of ammo already? I sure do.

Well then, they will sell nothing, someone will undercut them and make all the sales. These are retail businesses, not the people at gunshows who price regular mosins at $300 for the hell of it.

I'll have quite a bit of ammo by the end of this... haven't done a count recently.

Unfortunately I think there is a herd mentality driving folks to buy no matter what the price. If I don't care what particular gun I need to take to the range, I'm pretty sure I have a lifetime's worth of ammo accumulated. That obviously doesn't apply for every caliber I shoot but collectively I think I'm all set and perhaps even will have some left over for my children...:D
