NEVER assume. Got this today at the Hampton VA show from a walk-around. He also had it at an earlier show. A few dealers had inquired about it, but balked when he said he wanted "five" for it.
I caught him at the front entry table while it was being zip tied (was on my way to the bathroom from my once in a blue moon "sell some extras" table), and he told me a bit more about his price. I expected a bit off because the stock had been sporterized. I don't have one because they are just too pricey. Although I asked out of curiosity, he took less than the "five" he had been asking. He meant $500!

AC44, Matching. Rail ground off. No magazine or rod.

I would be happy to learn some more information particular to AC44s in this block / range / features. It is getting a new (probably repro) stock and going into my collection. Thanks!

Similar situation

Price can be tricky, sometimes people assume you know how many zeros they mean. Almost bought a 1941 Johnson for $750 because the guy was talking and kept saying 750 when I asked the price. I asked him twice what was wrong with it and he kept saying it was fine. I pulled out my $750 only to find that in his mind he meant $7500, not sure how he confused the two. Needless to say, didn't end up with a Johnson. When you get into high dollar guns, it's still possible the uninformed could be that far off on the price and it becomes a challange to ask without offending or giving away a deal. You apparently did a good job of that.

The gun looks excellent, I am not sure that I would change the stock. A little creative wood working on the buttstock might be the better option, particularly if that stock matches. Seems you could remove the rubber and form the end to reaccept a cupped buttplate or if too short, you could splice into and extend the original. I think even if it was a tad short, I would form the end for the buttplate. It would only give itself away next to another K-43. You can fill the extra sling mount hole. Just my two cents and great buy!!

Is it the original stock?

Appreciate the insight... I'll keep the original stock; the rear portion that fits into the buttplate was sawed off. There are several plugged swivel holes, the one remaining is inset with a quick detach. But again, who's gonna complain for the price! The killer is the repop stocks I am finding are several hundred $$!

No matter what, a nice Rifle for the price, and will be a fun shooter. Am I correct the Scope mount has been milled off (or never there) looks too flat?? Also on pricing, On the way out of a Pomona Great Western, probably 15 - 18 years ago, came accross a Mexican Modragon. First one I had ever seen for sale. I knew the seller pretty well confirmed what I was looking at and asked how much he was asking. "Well, I been asking nine & a half, but if you want it seven and a half. Looked at wife, gee that is not bad, kind of neat. (remember I had never seen one for sale before) So, he says, "take it home, either return it tomorrow or pay me, we can work something out." Then it hit me, how much do you want for this? "$7,500" Needless to say it did not go home with me, and I sheepishly thanked him and went on my way. Although at todays prices I wish I had!! Skid

Had a rail. Ground off a long time ago. Working on parts (buttplate and screws, some nicer trigger guard screws, sight cover) and stock repair leads.
