I posted a couple weeks back on the one screw front band I found at SOS, needed to complete this Izawa 9th, number 13545.

This is a scarce variant, having both the shallow cupped butt plate, the long top handguard with the peep sight, and the single screw front band. This variant was assembled on what was likely a previously rejected stock. When I obtained it, it had been sportered by removing the handguard, and cutting the lower stock to just in front of the lower band.

Repair and restoration consisted of grafting a replacement forearm to the cut stock, under the lower band; making the correct long handguard from two donor handguards, and the great luck of finding the single screw front band. I still need to find the correct late welded safety. No inspection markings on the lower butt stock.

Here are pictures of the completed project. It will always be a mis-matched mongrel; but represents what it would have looked like when manufactured during the transition from the early T 99 configuration to the late one.

Nice job on the stock color matching. (they do make it a challenge don't they). I have 12395 with the same front band and buttplate. The seller mentioned a couple of "buggered screws". Stove bolts and phillips heads weren't used in those days. Thank heavens he didn't bugger the threads. Don Schlickman came through again on the correct screws. :>)

You're correct, matching the color/finish on 3 different pieces of wood is a bear; but close enough on this one, thanks.:)

How about you guys posting your pictures here!

I remember that one now, good old number 4!

I think I have a few flecks of the same pain on my barrel; they must have come from the same closet!:)
