I've been looking at this forum for a while and see alot of 9.3x57 Mauser shooter/handloaders here. I've got a 1905 MS that was originally 9x56MS but so shot out and corroded I rebored/rerifled up to 9.5x57MS and refurbished the arm as it had declined badly. My interest is in knowledge concerning powder choices. Those powders appropriate to 9.3x57 should be good for 9.5x57. I load only the Speer 235gr. spitzer as that fills my deer and black bear requirements. My current load is 46.0gr. IMR 3031 @ 2000fps. I can't find my records but also have a 48.5gr.IMR load and the velocity isn't significantly greater. This rifle has the claw mount base dovetailed into the front reciever ring and is a std. MS action, not like Mauser M98 so I'd like to keep pressures down, similar to where the 9.3x57 folks are running their Swedish M96 types. I'd like to get this MV up to 2300 + fps...what do you folks think? I've got zero case head expansion, round primers and sooting at the case mouth. Case is at approx. 75% case capacity...more IMR 3031 or something else?

IMHO you will have to go to a "slower" powder than 3031. My load for the 9.5x57M-Sch and the 235gr. Speer bullet: case formed from W-W .30-06, primer S&B standard lr, powder 57gr VV N140 (burning range about like 4320 or R15), full capacity load, slowly poured in through a 6" drop tube. I got an instrumental velocity of 2360 fps from the 20" barrel of my M1910 without any signs of high pressure.
