Does anyone have a load using AA4350 in the 8mm Mauser with a 200 grain projectile?

The fist edition AA manual lists 44 grains as the maximum but this nominally produces 2000fps.

The online data does not list AA4350 at all.

I would like to get it up to at least 2400/2500 fps.

Thank You

I have the latest edition of the Accurate Load Guide, it shows just two powders for 8x57 Mauser, AA2460 & AA2520. Generally speaking, many of the powders that work well in the .30-06 Springfield cartridge also do well in 8mm, and the current Accurate guide lists a number of 06' loads using 4350, with bullet weights ranging from 150 all the way up to 220 grs., so it's a little puzzling why they don't have any 8mm loads using this powder.

This recipe comes direct from my Speer #14 manual,

Bullet: 8mm 200 gr Spitzer Soft Point 0.323 Diameter (Speer Part #2285)

AA 4350 Start Load: 46.0 grs., Muzzle Velocity 2022 fps.

Max. Load: 50.0 (compressed charge) Muzzle Velocity 2149 fps.

Based on this I would say it's probably not possible to get the kind of velocity you're looking for with this bullet and powder combination, and stay within safe chamber pressure limitations.

Warning: load data is for informational purposes only, use at your own risk.

Thanks to both.

This is, more or less, the sense I was getting from the data, this powder seems to work great in '06 but not in the 8mm.
Curious, but there it is.

I'm just looking for some loads to use up a bunch of powders (this being one of them) that I inherited, don't want to sell them (liability and all) and can't bring myself to dump them, what with the price of powder.

Figured I could use this as a substitute for my IMR4895 standard and save my base powder for future use, assuming that the first edition load book was just being over-conservative.

I'm actually using the Prvi 196 grain FMJ as opposed to a real 200 grain bullet but I have generally found that the weight and design difference between bullets doesn't become a problem until you get to the high end of the load range.
I never load anything that hot, never saw any need too.

Figured I could use this as a substitute for my IMR4895 standard and save my base powder for future use.
I guess not, I'll try some of the higher loads listed but I'm not seeing this as a reasonable substitute powder for the 8mm, good thing there is only a pound of it.

Maybe I'll use it for some '06 loads.

None of these loads are for match use or anything critical so if the match is not the best, that's OK.

Thanks for helping.

I have an old Accurate Reloaders Guide from 2001. It gives a max (compressed) charge of 51grs of 4350 for the HDY 220gr SP bullet. With an OAL of 2.990
This was tested out of a Douglas with a 24" barrel. CCI 250 primers and Rem cases. Velocity,2274.
At the time I also printed out data from their website. It gives data for the same rifle, barrel length, bullet, primer and cases.
Case max length: 2.240
Trim lenght: 2.220
OAL Max: 3.230
OAL MIN: 2.815
Start charge with 4350: 45.9grs.
Velocity: 2001
Max charge: 51.0grs.
Valocity: 2274
Again max is a compressed charge with an OAL of 2.990.

Or you could donate them to your friend Shoobedoo....

But seriously, I can certainly understand your dilemma and hopefully you'll find some use for them other than fertilizer.

Good luck.

If friend Shoobedoo lived across the street (or even across town) he would be more than welcome, however.......................

Sadly, I had just managed to get my powder store down to four basic powders, with which I was reloading all of my various calibers. It made for a nice compact powder magazine.

Then this lot dropped on my lap, a can of this and a can of that, to the tune of 30 pounds or so.

Lest you think me a whiner, I have dispensed much of it to those at my club with an interest in the various types, some of them were really out there on the fringes as far as powder goes. But, no matter, if they wanted it I gave it up with the understanding that it was what it was, free gunpowder, and that any potential problems were theirs and theirs alone.

So far I have heard of none, thankfully.
