I am thinking about buying a 6.8 upper for a built AR lower that I have thrown in the safe (I have a RRA .223 already). I was wonder how easy is it to get ammo for and what is it going for these days

It's quite easy - 4 manufacturers @ this time - average around a .75 a shot new.

DPMS will put one together for you too, not sure what the wait time would be though.
Forgot, they also have kits to convert mags, or complete magazines as well.
