I found these pics. of an experimental Jarmann rifle and some early "6,5x55" cartridge prototype. These are the property of the army museum in Norway. I found these to be pretty interesting.

In Haneviks book about the Krag, I find some info and a drawing of the "6,5mm projectpatrone" (6,5mm project cartridge) from 1892.
On the 3rd of february 1891 the norwegian army appointed the "Rifle commission of 1891". They did extencive ballistic tests with several calibers ranging from 10,15mm down to 5mm. Calibers smaller than 6,5mm gave too high preasures, and they soon found the 6,5mm caliber to be the best. In 1891 - 92 about 40 Jarmann rifles were reworked to various calibers. The trials included bullet types / weights, various rifling systems, twists, various powders etc... The early 6,5mm experimental cartridges used a.o."Roths long and short case". The early 6,5 mm cartridges pictured is probably the "6,5mm projectpatrone" from 1892, and it's probably 7x57 mauser pinched in to 6,5mm. The Jarmann rifle in 6,5mm cal. is very likely one of the 40 testguns.
Looks like an early Mauser magazine. Didn't I see an early swedish mauser m/89 trial rifle somewere in this forum? The final 6,5x55 cartridge was designed by commission of three swedish and three norwegian officers in november 1893. These early cartridges must be the grandfather of the 6,5x55. The label on the stripperclips reads: "Speedloader or cartridgeholder for the 6,5mm Jarmanns rifle of 1892"

Hello,

While looking for other informations, I found following two reports in Swedish Artilleritidskrift, held in Kungliga Biblioteket i Stockholm, SE. Should anyone be interested, I can direct them to person in KB that is already familiar with Artilleritidskrift.

Rapport över utredning av 6,5 mm handeldvapen och ammunition. Artilleritidskrift 1901, s 71.
and
Jarmans förbettrade repetermekanism Artilleritidskrift 1884, s 266, av de L.
