4831 is way too slow for the Garand's gas system which was designed for 4895 and similar burn rates. With a slow burning powder there is too much pressure at the gas port resulting in possible damage to the op-rod and other parts due to overly "excited" operation.. I get very good results with 4895, 4064, and Varget. IMR 4064 is my favorite.
