Seeing as how I have lots of time on my hands presently,I took a chance on a cracked tang one. It's the same one I posted a picture of last week. I found out very quickly why the crack is there. The front guard screw was in very tight,where as the rear was very loose(it took almost 4 turns before it was tight) I don't think it was ever apart before,the trigger guard needed a good knock from a rubber mallet to break free. Other than that though,the gun looks to be hardly used. No primer marks on the bolt head,front sight hood is intact,rest of the stock is in very good shape. I guess it's a Model 46A from 1942. So now on to experimenting on crack fixing. At least the crack does not go through to the bottom.

That is a very fine looking rifle; fantastic condition. It has heirloom potential for sure, even with the crack.

Kriggie is right. Very nice shootin iron.

Built same year as my 46. Actions could'a been made by the same fellow.

You won't need to fill in old scope mount inletting with Pop-Sickle sticks like I did in mine.

Actually, I believe Woodbeef is "one of us" from north of the 49th, so he undoubtedly got it from the Canadian Husky Superstore, TradeEx in Montreal. Between Allan and Anthony we're draining Sweden dry!

I think you are right Stuart, on both accounts. Pretty sure I've seen that handle around cgn from time to time.

Anthony and Tony sure have a pile of those rifles now, was browsing the other night. Wow! I wonder how many of these things are sitting in closets over there to keep coming over like this. They must be like 30-06's are here, or maybe 22s........

Yes Sir,it has a smaller one under the wood line. It's further forward than on the M38 versions.

Coincidentally, I just ordered my first 9.3x57 HVA from Allan's Armory, and it could be a twin to yours. Same stock and receiver configuration. I picked mine because I've been reading how much fun everyone else is having with the 9.3x57 caliber, and I wanted one to play with too. Just ordered a set of Hornady dies and 285 gr. PRVI bullets too. This is going to be fun!

The serial number on mine dates to 1942 using the HVA serial number tables. I wouldn't be surprised if these m/38 receivers were picked out of the same bin as those used to build military m/38 rifles. In other words, new military receivers, not rebuilds from existing rifles. One clue would be if there is no serial number on the left side of the receiver.

This thread keeps me thinking...How many of these 9.3x57 rifles are now in the USA and Canada?

Skimming thru other websites and forums they pop up pretty continuously tho it is hard to say just how many are being used. Some guys on other forums seem to buy them then let them sit in a corner unused, unlike the kooks and nuts around here that retire their garden run .270's, .308's and .30-06's and replace them with the New North American Standard Potetkaster Special.

Given a little time, 9.3x57 will be introduced as a factory cartridge by Winchester and Remington, and soon after, .30-06 ammunition sales will plummet as shooters rebarrel their .30's to 9.3 Short en masse.

I've got at least ten now, five M46's, 5 M146's, one of which is actually a 9.3x62 now. Oh, I forgot the Gustav Genschow 98 in 9.3x57.

I got one a few weeks ago that has been drilled & tapped. The holes are straight but they did a funky job of contouring the rear bridge. left half the charger hump in place so I recontoured the the bridge & surface ground it. I just need to rust blue it and it will be quite the rifle for what I paid.

My very first 9.3x57, an older M46, had a similar but smaller crack. I gently pried the crack open and let some acraglas run into it. Then clamped it together and let set. next day I relieved the tang, most of these are too tight, and haven't had a problem since.

No,not yet. I was cogitating it though just this morning. Basically wondering the best way to attack it,and what to use to hold it together while it was drying.

Surgical tubing works great.

I have a correction to my previous statement. My first M46 was cracked however, I did not acraglass it. I only relieved the tang and have been shooting it ever since. My second had a larger crack which I repaired with acraglass and it is still going strong too.
