i just picked up a 1911 a1 rs colt blued the frame and slide dont match ser# but they look like they belong together both ser# are 2864 off from matching. [slide is 1941] my ? is ,is this 45 very collectable even though not matching nu# thanks Ray
Do you mean that Colt reblued the frame and slide, or that they are Clot parts and were reblued? A 1911A1 from 1941 would have been, by the way, Parked, not blued.
A mis-match, if a GI gun and an arseanal refurb wuld be collectible, but not "highly collectible" as i see it. If it is a GI gun that was reworked by Colt with a blue (especilly high polish commercial style0 would be interesting and salable, but not really all that much attactive to a collector of 1911s.
no it has not been reblued what i mean sometime in ww2 the troops was cleaning their weapons [45s] and grabbed a slide and place it on this frame and it has been like that all through the years what i am asking even though not matching is it a collectable RS 1941 colt all orginal blue thanks Ray
A very nice and scarce pistol Ray matching or not. It appears to be in very nice shape as well. I believe that out of Colt's entire military production of 1911A1's only 35K were blued. Parkerization began to show up at about the 730000 range and became prevalent at 734000. I recently acquired a blued RS 1941 mismatched by 15 numbers and I'm very happy to have found it.
Yeh, I spoke too soon about type finish, forgot that hey were still doing some in brushed blue in '41, didn't switch to Parkerization until into the year.
The mis=match in your case is not problem IMO. All-matching, 100% would be worth more, but that one is desireable and yes, highly collectible. The parts switch probably occured in a unit arms room when the armorer was cleaning everything on hand rather than when the troops were clening weapons.
Yes, still pretty collectable. With only 34500 blue M1911A1's made between 1924 and 1941, they are very desireable and will still sale pretty high. Congratulations. Does it have a small G Colt barrel? Grips look correct.
