Firstly I'd like to say hello as I believe this is my first post here on the K98 forum. I'm in need of some information on this K98 I've run across. It's a 1939 237 with a Erma barrel. The barrel and it's markings interest me most about the rifle. Otherwise it's a typical Soviet rework and thus completely non-matching. What can you tell me about the barrels markings? Is it unusual to find Erma barrels on other makers receivers? What does the DO 110 / 38 stand for? I'm guessing 38 could be the year of manufacture for the barrel?

Any help will be appreciated. I don't know much about K98's as I mainly collect hex receiver M91/30 Mosin Nagant's (concentrating on 1920's updated dragoons), 1920's Nagant revolvers, and Yugoslavian rifles. I also dabble in Swiss Schmidt Rubins and Mannlicher straight pulls.

Do is the steel manufactor, which my notes say is Döhlen AG/cyw

110 is the lot number and 38 is the year. I don't recall seeing ERMA stamped on the barrel, but then I'm over 40 so my memory isn't very good anymore.

Someone more knowledgeable will hopefully shed more light on it for you.

Thank you for the info. I haven't purchased it. Found it for sale online and thought it was sort of interesting but I wanted to get some more info first, thus my post here. It would be about $300 shipped which I find a bit steep. I'm stuck in the dark ages when Russian reworks were under $200 all day long. For now I've decided to pass on it.

I never suspected any sort of Russian rebarrel. The only weapon I'm aware of the Russians rebarreling to some extent during refurb was the Nagant pistols. Thus I knew it was German done but I didn't know if it was a later rebarrel or an original barrel from a subcontractor put on at manufacture.
