Got to pick one from the stores 3 crates,cleaned out the bore and it cleaned up nice,not counterbored,I fired it afternoon and it grouped good.Blue looks like black paint.I paid 100, including tax out the door.it is in vg condition other than that odd paint or whatever it is.cherry import.


any info about it?

the "black paint" you are referring to was part of the rapid refurb. process...when bluing was either unnecessary or took too much time, they simply slopped on some black paint in lieu of bluing the metal...

...I have some of that 'black paint' on my 1939 Tula refurb....

The best thing you could do to receive more info is to post some photos!!... :thumbsup:

I have a 30's Hex that was slathered in black paint. Underneath it, I would assume it has the original bluing and it really looks fantastic. Sort of glossy blue versus the heavy black phosphate coating on my other refurbs. (Im no expert, for all I know it is the same finish as any refurb, just 'worn in' a lot) The Hexs seem to generally have finer machining all around and really dont need the coverup from a matte bluing. I could see this when I was sifting through all the rifles available and it made my choice easy. :) It will always be a refurb, but has a bit more character. When I get the itch to buy again, I will be looking for the same thing again.
