Picked this up last fall, recent refurb without any import marks, most of these rifles had the original receivers replaced with earlier Imperial ones due to poor metal quality, so this is sort of interesting.

Please elaborate what is rough on the receiver? Picures are kind of grainy so I can't see the roughness. Find the whole subject interesting. Have not got around to checking my own 1920-1924 M91's or 1923-24 Dragoons. Cheers, John.

Hmm... I have a 1922 ex dragoon and the receiver looks like that. The import mark is big and bold on the side and I thought the took something to the receiver when they stamped it but maybe it was already like that. How can you tell how old the receiver is? Sorry, not a 91/30 expert. Just have a couple to satisfy my itch.

Take the action out of the stock, and look on the underside of the tang.

Photos...

Here are photos from today. 1920 Tula barreled receiver. Barrel finish is actually rougher than the receiver. Notice the jaw marks. M91 probably last in Romanian possession. Complete photos on a recent thread. Member Jlieper wrote that Russian Civil War produced rifles are rough, Izhevsk more than Tula.

Considering they didn't make Mosin receivers in 1881, 1221, 1821, 1281, 1291, 1991, or 1981. It has to be 1891 or 1921.... I think though in 1891 they would have taken more care not to mis strike the stamp....1921 The craftsmanship was probably not as high.;)

Yeah, figured there would be some process of elimination here.
