Recently acquired a nice 1918 REM which received a new lease on life as a Finn infantry rifle with a force matched 91/30 bolt and a REM magazine. It is, however, missing the disc in the stock. Is it possible to find an original disc to add? That empty hole gets uglier every time I look at it. Thank you.

1918 Remington M91s are hard as hens teeth to find!....;)

The stock disk is pretty much made from unobtainium - Very difficult if not impossible to find.

On another note, the Finns took the disk out decades ago, it is correct to leave the disk inlet as is. Too bad the stock was stripped, the rifle's action is a pretty uncommon find....

Stripped by who, I wonder. That looks close to a Soviet oil finish as seen on late M44s.

Thanks, martin08. Found two at the same time, but the condition of this one was superior, regardless of the stock. Lucky now to have one each 16-17-18, plus some other 17s. And glad to see so many other guys interested in the M-N regardless of type or country. What an historically fascinating weapon!

Thank you, Vic. That kinda puts a cap on the question. I had spoken with some M-N guys at last year's SOS re: discs, and was told that the Finns had taken them off and remelted the metal for other uses. Being familiar with man's proclivity to save, not destroy I had hoped there were examples still about. "Years and years" sounds pretty final; thanks again for the info.

I wouldn't have let the stock bother me either. I have a 1917 Finn Remington. I snatch them up when I can find them. Congrats! Good choice...now go get the other one :)

Pahtu- thanks for the pix. Great to see a 1916 REM, and congrats on acquiring it! Most interestingly, it is Austrian-marked (OE WG), which means it was probably captured on the Eastern Front and sent back to Austria (Steyr), where some of those rifles were re-chambered for the 8x50R round. Since this veteran then went to Finland, it was re-sleeved for the 7.62; I see it is "D" marked. My 1916 followed a similar path, and I will bring it to this site. See close-up of muzzle indicating the re-sleeving. Nice find.
