Hi Guy's
Can anybody tell me when Lithgow stopped installing the magazine cut off? I have an all matching 1918 Lithgow rifle albeit JJ import. I shoot it quite a bit cause the darn thing looks so cool.

Lithgow cut-off plates ceased to be installed some time in early 1918,although the cut-off slot was retained right into 1918.

You can usually tell what it is supposed to be configured like if there is an asterisk / star after the III on the shield on the reciever ring and the butt (ie if there is a star it should not have a cut-off plate installed).

My 1918 (non-FTR) has the asterisk struck through on the butt star and on the receiver ring, as it was converted back to MkIII configuration some time between 1926 and 1941 (has an MA cut-off installed).

Of course, any FTR'd 1918 would not have a cut-off plate fitted as they were done away with around mid-1941.

Cheers, Mark
