Guys, here is a quick picture of a Mosin I picked up in trade (along with my youngest, he had to get into the picture). A friend bought it and passed it on to me. It is a Remington 1916. The bolt and reciever match but nothing else. Bore is Rough and the stock is cracked a little. No proofs on the sling that I can see so I don't know anything about it. The site is remarked on the right side and it is SA marked. The stock has some some cartouche on the right side and a cartouche on the right hand side that looks like a K in a circle. On the underneath of the stock is a "7" stamped behind the barrel band by the sight and a "5" behind the triggerguard. The buttplate and triggerguard have been replaced and I think some parts of the bolt. I hope the bore will clean up enough to shoot some. What else should I look for on this? I gave him $150 for it hopefully that was not too much but his is a friend and gave me what I wanted for the pistol he took in trade. My boy wants to shoot it! He is going to have to grow a little first.

Thanks for looking

I'd say you did alright especially with a matching bolt body, cleaning rod, and a sling. LOL, the rifle is taller than him. :)

Yep, really nice deal. I was looking at the stock to see if it was the correct American Walnut when that oval sling keeper caught my eye. As bdgfate said, that sling is almost worth half the price you paid for the whole get up.

Man, I wish my dad had brought home stuff like this when I was in grade school!

Yeah the kid has to be worht at least $50. Eh? Hell if they are maybe I could sell my 3 and get another Mosin. :D

Yeah, he's priceless to me but I don't think I would pay a nickle for another one! Him and his two sisters keep my wife and I pretty busy. He makes a great shooting partner because he loves to pick up the brass! Only took him once to figure out it was hot.
Alamo, is the sling info on 7.62X54.net? I am working nights right now and have not had a chance to do much research.

Thanks

good price, especially for a 1916 date. If you check the history of the threads here, you won't see very many of them. probably because they started making them right at the end of november that year. congrats, y'all have a good day. Keith
