What is the serial number? If you are looking for a shooter, you will want a double heat treated carbon steel or nickel steel receiver.

Think VERY hard about restoring what is pretty much just a receiver... it will be cheaper in the long run to find a decent condition rebuild. Building one from parts will be expensive, unless you have a hoarde of parts on hand.

IMHO restoring boat anchor weapons is a bottomless pit for ones money, and one would be better off speinding more up front and getting what one desires.

Having said that, $85 for a M1903 action (assuming it's in decent shape and wasn't made by Nat'l Ord) is a very good buy, in that it could easily be resold at a profit.

it bootoms out at what it says on the receiver - if its the right data its an excelent buy at $85 if not its that boat anchor ,

the project rifle while nobel in theory is a work of love , and then its all in what it means to you , if you like it go for it , but it will cost you far more than buying one intact and when done you will not make a profit unless your very lucky or wait a sufficeint amount of time ,

pick and choose your project to suite your desires for a rifle to own
